Wainwright Walks Place Fell

Place Fell stands above the shores of Ullswater, a Wainwright walk that takes in some fantastic scenery - and accessible from Glenridding and Patterdale, making it ideal for the many walkers who choose those areas as a base to explore the surrounding countryside. Place Fell is bound to the west and north by the picturesque lake of Ullswater, offering wonderful views of that lake from its summit. So pleasant are the vistas that in his guidebooks, Wainwright was moved to say that parts of the ascent to Place Fell from Patterdale were 'the most beautiful and rewarding walk in Lakeland'.

More Details

For lovers of Wainwright walks, a good circular route for a day's walking around Patterdale would be the summits of Place Fell, Angletarn Pikes and Beda Fell, which can be easily completed in a day, and never far from Patterdale or the shores of Ullswater. This means a number of fells can be completed from your Wainwright maps at once, while never straying too far from the friendly village of Patterdale and the welcoming pint or cup of tea that awaits you at the end of your journey.

Further information about Place Fell and the surrounding fells can be found in Book Two: The Far Eastern Fells, part of the Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, by Alfred Wainwright.

Place Fell together with all of the Wainwright Fells are included on the Lake District Hill Chart - this A1 size wainwright map is a beautiful pictorial overview of The Lake District National Park. All 214 Wainwright fells are clearly marked and included in a corresponding hill information table & tick-list. The Lake District Hill Chart is used to record your progress through this exceptional landscape, at the same time it is a functional and informative piece of artwork for the home.
